This website is designed to highlight the vast experience and capabilities of our economists and to act as a resource for internal and external clients seeking solutions to complex economic issues.

Many policy and management decisions involve analysis of economics. PNNL employs economists with various specializations to conduct both macro- and micro-economic analysis and forecasting. Significant research efforts are directed at development and application of macro-economic modeling tools that help policy-makers examine possible future interactions of important economic, energy and environmental variables.

Tools include computable general equilibrium models, input-output models, and mixed econometric models. Our economists also conduct studies on lifecycle costs and other economic parameters affecting decisions at the organizational level.

In addition, our capabilities include a number of economists with expertise in assessing the value of natural resources and of environmental damage. They use methods such as travel cost, contingent valuation, hedonic analysis, ecological economics, and benefit transfer.

The use of these tools to address problems can range from the straightforward to the extremely complex. The correct solution to the problem is dictated by the needs of the client, and PNNL economists are trained to deliver insights and analyses that address the problems, needs and resources of the client.
